Neue Schule Bits

What makes Neue Schule bits special? Neue Schule bits are carefully researched and crafted with thoughtful designs and cutting-edge materials. These bits work with the horse’s anatomy to encourage softness, throughness, and engagement. Like saddles, not every bit will be right for every horse. Neue Schule, or “New School,” offers a range of bit designs to ensure a well-fitted and comfortable bit for your horse!

Neue Schule Bits Design & Features

Neue Schule Salox Gold mouthpieces

Salox Gold

All Neue Schule mouthpieces are made from Salox Gold, a unique warmer metal with anti-tarnishing properties. Because of its high thermal conductivity, Salox Gold rapidly reaches mouth temperature, encouraging bit acceptance and relaxed communication. Salox Gold is softer than stainless steel, providing an extremely forgiving mouth feel–like polymer, without the risk of damage or dents in the bit material from prolonged use. The addition of aluminum to the copper alloy that makes up Salox Gold prevents reactions that can create unpleasant tastes and smells that can discourage acceptance of the bit.

Salox Gold, in short, combines the best qualities of available bit materials–a softness similar to polymer, a neutral taste and smell like stainless steel, and a metal that will rapidly warm to the temperature of the horse’s mouth.

Neue Schule Tranz-Angled Lozenge Loose Ring Bit

Tranz-Angled Lozenge Loose Ring Bit

The Neue Schule Tranz-Angled Lozenge Loose Ring bit is a gentle training tool with a bit of extra help. When the rider takes contact on the reins, the Tranz-Angled Lozenge rolls down onto the center of the tongue, enhancing the horse’s feel and responsiveness. The arms are slightly curved with an oval profile. The oval design of the arms takes up less room between the tongue and upper palate, while offering a similar weight-bearing surface as a thicker, circular mouthpiece.

Neue Schule Turtle Top Hunter D-Ring Bit

Turtle Top Hunter D-Ring

The Neue Schule Turtle Top Hunter D features an anatomically inspired double jointed bit design with enhanced mouth stability. The mouthpiece surfaces are optimally aligned to the tongue and palate. This bit combines Neue Schule’s Turtle Top with FlexZ design. Gently curved cannons form a wide arch aligned over the tongue and held in shape by the flat, gentle Turtle Top. Because of this alignment, the bit is more securely centered on the tongue and more resistant to being pulled through the mouth.

The combination of this mouthpiece with a D-ring creates an exceptionally stable, soft bit that is often useful for horses that are overactive in the mouth in a loose ring design.

Neue Schule Verbindend Loose Ring Bit

Verbindend Loose Ring

The Neue Schule Verbindend Loose Ring promotes self carriage and throughness by greatly clarifying and emphasizing the rider’s signals through the rein. The curved shape of the double-jointed Verbindend mouthpiece helps to correct tongue evasions and encourages the horse to soften and relax through the jaw. This bit can also enhance the development of the bend for lateral work and smaller circles. Dressage legal! Despite its dramatic appearance, this bit is not severe, so if you are a pleasure rider and simply wish to lift the forehand then this bit may be an excellent choice.

Neue Schule Turtle Top Loose Ring bit

Turtle Top Loose Ring Bit

The Turtle Top Loose Ring bit is ideal for a horse with an overactive, busy mouth that chomps and chews on the mouthpiece. The loose ring cheek is an uncomplicated, tried and trusted design. No matter what your rein tension, the mouthpiece remains unchanged and aligned with the horse’s mouth. The Turtle Top mouthpiece remains centered and arched over the tongue at all times, safely helping to prevent sideways tongue evasions. This comfortable mouthpiece re-focuses an inattentive mouth back onto the rein aids in order to achieve a soft, consistent contact.

Neue Schule Turtle Top Tactio Loose Ring bit

Turtle Top Tactio Loose Ring Bit

The Neue Schule Turtle Top Tactio Loose Ring bit is designed to accommodate a horse with a larger tongue or more sensitive bars. The Tactio mouthpiece focuses rein pressure to the center of the tongue, rather than more sensitive areas near the bars of the mouth. The arms of the bit are wider and flatter, achieving the same softness and pressure distribution of a much thicker mouthpiece while reducing bulk in the horse’s mouth.

The loose ring cheekpiece is an ideal choice for a horse with an overactive, busy mouth that chomps and chews on the mouthpiece.

Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge Eggbutt bit

Tranz-Angled Lozenge Eggbutt Bit

The Neue Schule Tranz Angled Lozenge Eggbutt is a double-jointed bit. This bit is an excellent choice for a horse that is tentative or inconsistent into rein contact. The eggbutt cheek piece offers stability within the mouth to boost the horse’s confidence and encourage it to seek the bit. When the rider takes contact on the reins, the Tranz-Angled Lozenge rolls down onto the center of the tongue, enhancing the horse’s feel and responsiveness. This bit is also beneficial for horses with short, tense necks. Unlike traditional Eggbutt designs, the combination of the Neue Schule cheek and mouthpiece ensure that the rider’s feel and response is not lost, and the horse is less likely to lean against the rider’s hand.
